Open the Codex agent command center with `codex agents --no-daemon`
Codex CLI rust-v0.167.0 addscodex agents --no-daemon, unread markers in the command center and session picker, draft-preserving backend switches, local image previews, Vertex AI via gcp_setup_wizard, /experimental system proxies, and inline patch review during approvals. Use the command center as the TUI entry point. Why this loop
This release centers Codex on a terminal agent command center instead of isolated chats. codex agents --no-daemon plus unread markers in the command center and session picker let you pick up finished work without polling. The in-app resume picker reuses connected backends and keeps composer drafts when you switch, which matters if you hop among API keys, Vertex AI, and other backends (TUI onboarding now includes gcp_setup_wizard under “Sign in another way,” with Application Default Credentials or a credential file). Local image thumbnails while composing, clickable transcript paths, and expanding patches while an approval prompt is still open keep review in the same session. Saved chats stay visible after provider changes; unresumable chats still expose a transcript and an editable continuation prompt. Pair that with serialized network approvals, experimental macOS/Windows system proxy support, and app-server [permissions.network] / prompt-user rules so network and approval behavior matches managed environments. Start at the command center, then enable Vertex AI or proxies only if your stack needs them.
Proposed actions
- Run
codex agents --no-daemonand treat the command center as the default entry point; unread results are marked there and in the session picker until you view the transcript. - In the Codex terminal session picker, switch among already-connected backends without leaving the TUI—composer drafts are kept across switches.
- In Codex TUI onboarding, open “Sign in another way,” enable
gcp_setup_wizard, and complete Google Cloud Vertex AI setup with Application Default Credentials or a credential file. - In Codex, open
/experimentaland opt into macOS or Windows system proxy settings if you sit behind a corporate proxy. - While an approval prompt is open, expand the patch inline in the transcript before approving. If a chat cannot resume after a model-provider switch, read its transcript and continue from the editable prompt in a new chat.
