Set maxProseWidth in Claude Code v2.1.282 and run claude doctor for ignored telemetry
Upgrade to Claude Code v2.1.282, set maxProseWidth so prose wraps in wide terminals while tables and code stay full width, then use claude doctor and /status to list telemetry variables in project settings that were ignored or that turned telemetry off.Why this loop
v2.1.282 adds maxProseWidth so Claude's prose no longer spans ultra-wide terminals while tables and code blocks keep full width—set it so review output stays readable. The same release lists telemetry variables from project settings that were ignored or that disabled telemetry, via a startup notice plus /status and claude doctor, so missing metrics are visible instead of silent. Managed setups that pair claude --chrome with an exclusive managed-mcp.json can allow that combo with allowClaudeInChromeWithManagedMcp; the Chrome-blocked error now names the setting. Resume/continue is safer: earlier messages are not re-sent in a changed form, extended thinking survives /model, /rename, /artifacts and a --tools list that omits a previously offered built-in tool, and invalid redacted_thinking data is dropped with one retry. Compaction retries on a fallback model if summarization is refused. Bash permission rules with a mid-pattern :* now apply from settings files as well as --allowedTools. Do not infer the +35 omitted changes.
Proposed actions
- Upgrade this machine's Claude Code CLI to v2.1.282 and confirm with
claude --version. - Add a
maxProseWidthsetting in this project's Claude Code settings that caps Claude's prose width in wide terminals while leaving tables and code blocks at full terminal width. - Run
claude doctorand/status; paste every telemetry variable they list as ignored or as turning telemetry off in this project's settings files. - If we launch
claude --chromebeside an exclusivemanaged-mcp.json, enable the managed settingallowClaudeInChromeWithManagedMcp; if Chrome is still blocked, use the error text, which now names that setting. - When resuming, use
--continueor--resumeand keep previously offered built-in tools in any--toolslist; v2.1.282 no longer rewrites earlier messages, drops extended thinking after/model,/rename, or/artifacts, or fails on invalidredacted_thinking(it drops those blocks and retries once).
